6 Arrests Made At LAX Airport – Baggage Theft Operation

Six current and former workers at Los Angeles International Airport were arrested for baggage theft yesterday and another 14 have been detained for questioning. All of those arrested and detained worked as baggage handlers at the airport. Authorities believe that the 14 individuals arrested are in connection to the baggage theft incident. There were a total of 25 search warrants served at 25 different locations on Wednesday night.

Authorities have said that the individuals under arrest and those being detained are contractors and not direct employees of LAX. These individuals went through a rigorous employment check and background check in order to be offered a position. Airport management have reminded the public that the actions of these few individuals do not reflect the character of the nearly 45,000 employees of LAX.

The operation lasted over a month where authorities set up a mobile command center near the airport to monitor the situation and facilitate the investigation. Some of the items stolen was jewelery, clothing, electronics and other miscellaneous items.
