Apparently Groupon MX, which is part of the South American Groupon chain, can only issue you a refund to a Mexican bank account or a Groupon MX voucher. Here’s my story, I purchased a wine tasting tour for two and received the “payment could not be processed” message twice. After the third attempt, the payment went through. However, I then noticed a charge for all three attempts. When trying to receive a refund for the other two transactions, Groupon MX said that they can only issue refunds via bank accounts for bank accounts in Mexico… which I do not have.

Furthermore, the customer service agent was not well trained. At first he agreed to refund my credit card, then came back and said it was not a possible method. I asked for a refund to PayPal (since that’s how I paid) and he agreed once more only to then find out it was not possible. In short, the only way to receive your money back is by having a Mexican bank account or by receiving a Groupon MX voucher (which I would not be able to use  while I am there).

So, if you plan on using Groupon MX, be careful – you might be stuck disputing the charge with your credit card issuer.
