Gay Couple Says Kiss Got Them Kicked out of Uber Along Freeway

A gay couple says kiss got them kicked out of Uber while they were driving along a busy highway.  Randall Magill and his fiancé, Jose Chavez recently got engaged in the Dominican Republic.  They claim that after drinking, they took an Uber.  It was in that Uber that they kissed each other, which seemed to both the driver.  The two believe that the driver was bothered by it because they were gay.

According to Click 2 Houston:

“I’ve never heard of anyone being asked to stop kissing anywhere, especially when you’re just peck on the lips,” Magill said.

He claims the driver told them he told a straight couple to stop kissing before them, but Magill and Chavez said they don’t believe that.

“He said, ‘I can’t take you no more.’ He was like, ‘I’m going to have to drop you guys off,’ and we said, ‘That’s fine,’” Chavez said. “I was upset. I’ve never been told not to kiss or anything.”

“He proceeds to pull off the freeway, not in any safe space place or anything , leaves us on the corner of 59 and New Castle, right next to the concrete sound barrier,” Magill said.

It’s important to note that both the couple and the driver reported the incident to Uber, and Uber says that it is looking into the incident, while also making note of their anti-discrimination policy.  I’m not one for public displays of affection, personally, but I don’t think it’s abnormal for a couple to give each other a kiss while sharing an Uber ride.  The driver’s side hasn’t been given on this, but it would be interesting to see what he claims was the reason for taking this action.

Regardless, it was incredibly irresponsible to drop them off in a place that was not really safe.  He should have appropriately exited the highway and left that somewhere other than right off the highway.

  1. Well in the drivers defense they did say “that’s fine”. Did they think the driver was bluffing?
