JetBlue now charges $25 for checked bagsJetBlue now charges $25 for checked bags

Prior to yesterday, Southwest Airlines and JetBlue were the only two U.S.-based airlines to waive checked baggage fees. If you recall, last November JetBlue announced that they would soon begin to charge for checking-in a bag, however, they never gave a specific date or timeframe.

Yesterday though, JetBlue announced that the new checked baggage policy would go into effect immediately for any flights booked on or after June 30, 2015. In other words if you booked a flight before June 30, 2015, you do not have to pay for your first checked bag.

JetBlue’s Checked Baggage Fees:

  • Check-in online or at a Kiosk: $20
  • Check-in counter: $25
  • Higher fares will still get the checked bag for free.
  • A second checked bag is still $35

According to the Executive Vice President of JetBlue, the earnings from the new fees will be reinvested into new seats and in-flight entertainment. In other words, nothing.

Southwest Airlines is now the only U.S. airline to offer free checked bags.
