Linking of American Airlines and US Airways accounts now LIVE!

As predicted by Gary Leff, one of the BoardingArea mileage connoisseurs, American Airlines AAdvantage and US Airways Dividend Miles accounts can now be linked online! Gary made this prediction earlier today via his blog, read the post here.

Simply go to AA.com and login using your AAdvantage account information to link both accounts. Make sure you have your US Airways Dividend Miles account number ready AND that the account information such as name, address, and etc. all matches. **Also, please note that this does not mean that your miles will be merged, this will happen in Q2.**

As American Airlines announced back in October, both frequent flyer programs will merge in the second quarter of 2015.

Keep in mind that if you have both an AAdvantage account and a Dividend Miles account you will keep your AAdvantage account number. If you only have a Dividend Miles number, then you will be given an AAdvantage number.

Gary, and I agree, recommends that you should go ahead and link both accounts now to save you any possible headaches in the future with earning miles from partners and to make the merging of accounts easier in the future. Unlike Gary, I’ve never had to merge or link accounts in the past so I went ahead and linked mine based on his recommendation (and my uncontrollable urge to finalize this merger).

Update 1: This option was only given to me on AA.com, not on USAirways.com. Gary, and others, believe it will go live on USAirways.com at around 3am EST.

Update 2: US Airways will send you an email confirming that your US Airways Dividend Miles account has been linked to your AAdvantage account.

Update 3: Once you link your accounts, it will show that it has been linked under “My Account” on AA.com. See image below.

  1. Option to link from US is scheduled to go live at 3 am Eastern. Gary indicated that the AA portal would go live at midnight eastern while the US portal will go live at 3 am. (Typical for US as emails, upgrade sweeps etc are based on the new day at HQ in PHX)
