I Booked An Overwater Villa For Six Nights At The Intercontinental Bora Bora for $136

After taking my first trip since the coronavirus outbreak began in the U.S, I have the travel bug back.  I’m ready to book travel for enjoyment again, and hope it returns soon.  Last night, I got a text from a friend about a crazy deal for the Intercontinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa.  I went on to booking.com and found the same deal she had seen.  I ended up booking six nights in the overwater villa for a total of $136 (including breakfast).

This Was A Great Deal

That price is absolutely amazing.  The reservation is for an overwater villa facing the ocean and Mount Otemanu.

Just as a point of reference, I was looking this morning, and the total for the same dates came to $9,465.  Even crazier is that price is for a lower class room than the one I booked.

The reservation is also cancellable up to 30 days until the stay.  Since I booked for a New Years stay, that means I have until November 27, 2020 to cancel the trip for a full refund.  That’s a great option to have given unpredictability with coronavirus and travel restrictions.

Will The Price Be Honored?

I booked it about 18 hours ago, and I still haven’t received notice the reservation is cancelled.  It is confirmed in my website portal, but of course that could change.

Shortly after I booked the room, They stopped selling any dates for that specific hotel.  I imagine that’s a sign it was likely an error.

It’s entirely possible we’ll receive word they are going to yank the reservation if it was an error.  We booked it with that understanding, since we want to travel for New Years but are unsure of what international will travel will look like at that time.  This gives us a trip in our back pocket just in case things open up.

We are definitely not planning on booking a flight anytime soon.  We’ll want to wait some more to see whether the fare is honored and how travel to French Polynesia is impacted when they reopen To international travelers on July 15, 2020.  As of July 15, they will require a coronavirus test 72 hours prior to departure.

I booked the Diamond Otemanu Overwater Village, which has beautiful views of both the blue waters and Otemanu Mountain.  The villa has about 700 square feet of inside space and over 300 square feet of outside space.  The room has direct access to the ocean.

Bottom Line

I was lucky to be notified of a deal to book a fully refundable 6-night stay at a premiere resort, the Intercontinental Bora Bora, for only $136 total.  At a hotel that would normally cost nearly $10,000 for the same time period, that’s a huge deal.  It’s unclear if the price will be honored because it did seem to be an error.  But we will see!

  1. Yeah, that’s getting canceled. When you get the notice, you may want to point out you are a blogger and link this post. Could be persuasive. I’d do it if I were you.

    1. I stayed at the Intercontinental in Bora Bora last january and payed 735.00 per night. It was beautifull!

  2. It will DEFINITELY get cancelled. Websites are making goof ball mistakes and just canceling these types of errors. I had a few friends book the FREE night at Wynn only to have them cancelled and instead of apologizing they claimed that they gamed the system.

  3. Also! Have you checked the laws regarding COVID-19 and traveling to these types of countries? 2 week mandatory quarantine and you have to be tested when you get there and before you leave!

    1. Yeah, that’s definitely on my radar. But since it’s a cancellable reservation with full refund it only made sense to book it and base it on circumstances as we get closer!

  4. Great snorkeling there. It’s my fav hotel on BB. IF/when you go, book a 1/2 day or full day w/ Lagoon Service. The most awesome experiene ever, no kidding.

    1. I’m not sure. She heard it from a friend and she also booked it for a different time than I did.

    1. Around New Years! Weather won’t be as nice as the rest of the year there from what I understand, but still a good deal!
