Siri and Alexa coming to a hotel near you in the future
The future is looking interesting. If you’re a Marriott junky, Siri and Alexa coming to a hotel near you in the future, specifically, to help you get what you need out of your hotel stay without having to speak to one of those human things that breathe and such.
According to a Bloomberg report, Marriott is testing iPad’s running Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Echo with Alexa at its Aloft hotel in Boston’s Seaport district. The devices would help customers operate lights in the room, control room temperature, and navigate the TV via voice commands.
The JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa in Texas has been testing Alexa since October 2016. The TX Marriot property installed Alexa devices in 10 of its most popular rooms, with plans to equip an additional 100 rooms in April. Alexa can be used to control the lights, temperature, and TV, but it’s main focus is as a personal concierge for ordering room service, or requesting toiletries from housekeeping.
Last year, Wynn Resorts announced it’s plan to equip all 4,748 rooms at their Las Vegas property by summer 2017.
While the Marriott property in Boston is testing both Siri and Alexa, my money is on Alexa winning. Alexa is more readily available without having to use an Apple device such as an iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple TV.
