A Great Way to Rack Up Qualifying Points With IHG

This may very well have been written about already, but I was not aware of it until today, when I was booking a stay at an IHG property.  In the list of booking options it gave me the chance to pay $15 and get 5,000 bonus miles, which is okay.  However, what really made this great was around the same time I was on the booking, IHG sent me an email and told me with the Bonus Points Package, it counts toward elite status.  I thought it was too good to be true, so I sent a DM to the IHG team on Twitter and they confirmed the 5,000 points will count as qualifying points.

In the example below, the package only shows for 1,000 extra points, but in my booking there was a 1,000 and 5,000 Bonus Point Package option.

It is a pretty good deal that for an extra $15 I was able to get an additional 5,000 qualifying points towards status, on top of the points I’d get for the stay in general.  Like I said, this may be something that’s been around awhile, but I was never aware that there was a chance to buy elite points with your booking.  As a note, there was another option of spending $10 to get 1,000 bonus points.  Obviously, the 5,000 was a much better deal!

I hope this article helps if there is someone out there who potentially wasn’t aware that the Bonus Points Package counts as qualifying points.
