Delta Releases New 2015 Award Redemption Chart

Earlier today, Delta Airlines released its 2015 Award Redemption Chart. On February 25, 2014, Delta announced that earning miles for award travel will be based on the price you pay for your ticket (and elite status), not miles flown.

The new chart does not seem as bad as what frequent flyers were expecting because many of the levels have remained at the same rate as they are now, with a few decreases and only two increases. For example, a level 1 award flight within the continental United States will still cost about 25,000 Skymiles. However, earning 25,000 Skymiles in 2015 and beyond will be more costly than how the current 2014 program is.

The big question is how reasonable the award availability will be. Delta is infamous for having very bad award redemption availability, usually only high mileage award redemption options are available. If the new 2015 redemption is anything like the current one in terms of availability and mileage pricing, this will probably be one of the biggest devaluations in airline history.

You can see the new 2015 award redemption chart HERE. Keep in mind that the new redemption rates are not yet available, but in my personal opinion – don’t expect them to be reasonable.
