Hotel Review: Best Western Key Ambassador Inn Key West, FL
This weekend I attended a wedding in Key West, FL. It was my first time visiting there, and when I first went to book the hotel, the prices were pretty steep for the simplest of hotels! I ended up going with the Best Western Key Ambassador Inn. It had pretty good ratings on Trip Advisor and I’ve always found Best Westerns to be a pretty safe bet.
The hotel is located very close to the airport, in fact, from the side where I stayed on you see the planes right before they touch down on the runway across the street. At night time, this wasn’t really an issue given that there isn’t really a whole lot of traffic there at that time.
My room had screened in balcony with a great view from a of the pool, tiki bar, and the beach across the road. It was a pretty nice view, but someone else who was also there for the wedding had a room on the first floor, which did not have any view at all and no porch.
The greatest complaint here was that two other people from the wedding complained that there were a good amount of cockroaches in their rooms when they first arrived. Both of those rooms happened to be on the first floor, whereas mine was on the second and I did not see any cockroaches, so I don’t know if that has something to do with it. When they asked the front desk about the cockroaches, they were told that Key West is a tropical place and that cockroaches are completely normal.
Now that we got the negatives out of the way, there are some positives! First off, they had a great breakfast. It was a continental breakfast, but they also had waffles and breakfast sandwiches that were really tasty. The breakfast room was packed and it was hard to find seating, but hey, it’s free, so it’s definitely worth it!
As for the rooms, I think they were pretty nice rooms with comfortable beds, a nice flat screen television, a chair, microwave , refrigerator, and a desk. The room was clean and came with two free waters as well as tea and coffee. Overall, a standard Best Western similar to what you would see at most other locations (except for the tile floor).
Overall, paying $258 a night for this hotel was a little tough, but given the area, that was one of the cheapest. I’d also say that if I found cockroaches in my room, I would not be very happy given the price that is being paid. If you are looking for a relatively affordable (it pains me to say that at that price for a Best Western) hotel in Key West, this might be what you are looking for.
