Save $75 on British Airways when using Avios
Now you can save $75 on British Airways when using Avios. British Airways has announced a new benefit for Executive Club members, which is their frequent flyer program. The new benefit lets you save money when you use 7,500 avios to pay for your flight. For example, now when you book a round trip on British Airways to London, and beyond, you can save $75 per person if you pay part of your booking with 7,500 Avios. What’s more is that you still earn your usual Avios and Tier Points on these flights. In other words if a flight is $500 and you use 7,500 avios then your flight will now only cost $425 instead of $500.
This program is similar to Delta’s “pay with miles” program, which is only available to those with an American Express SkyMiles credit card. However, on Delta’s program if you use pay with miles you do not accrue miles unless you fly first class. The British Airways equivalent is open to all members of their frequent flyer program and no credit card account is required, however, there is a cap of $75 discount per person per flight whereas Delta’s cap is a lot higher.
Savings aren’t restricted to round trip flights either. British Airways also offers a 50% saving on one-way flights; so you can save $37.50 per person by using 3,750 Avios. This new benefit can also be used for up to eight family and friends in the same booking (reservation).
This offer is exclusive to Executive Club Members and available on British Airways operated flight only bookings in all cabins.
I personally think this is a great benefit, I wish American Airlines had a similar option for those with the Citi AAdvantage credit card or those with elite status. Hopefully other U.S.-based airlines mimic BA’s move.
