Airlines On-Time Performance in 2016
FlightStats provides an in-depth analysis into how airlines perform both domestically and internationally. I was reviewing FlightStats 8th annual on-time performance awards and wanted to share their results with you, in case you have not read them already.
Interested in seeing which U.S. airlines made the top 3? Check out the list below… One of them shocked me, will any of them shock you?
- Alaska Airlines – 87%
- Delta Airlines – 85.17%
- WestJet – 82.73%
- Southwest Airlines – 81.89%
- United Airlines – 81.83%
- American Airlines – 80.16%
- Frontier – 77.44%
- Virgin America – 77.33%
- JetBlue Airways – 76.33%
- Air Canada – 76.30%
Alaska and Delta are no surprise, both airlines have been improving their on-time performance rating year over year. I was shocked to see Virgin America at 77.33% and wonder how Alaska’s rating will look like post-merger.
Now globally, the list is much different. Check out how the major international airlines rank:
- KLM – 88.53%
- Iberia – 88.18%
- Japan Airlines – 87.80%
- Qatar Airways – 86.34%
- Austrian – 85.74%
- ANA – 85.54%
- Singapore Airlines 85.45%
- Delta – 85.17%
- TAM – 85.07%
- QANTAS – 84.30%
As you can tell, the only U.S. airline to make the international on-time performance list was Delta Airlines. Again, not a surprise.
As forĀ Airline Alliance on-time performance rating for 2016…
- oneworld – 81.19%
- Star Alliance – 78.58%
- SkyTeam – 77.70%

Why surprised by Virgin America’s on-time record? I love VX but they’ve got a SFO base. You’re just bound to have more delays due to weather.
