American officially confirms update to first class meal policy

first class meal policyAmerican Airlines sent out an email today officially announcing modifications to its first class meal policy. The new changes impact those flights over 2 hours but under 2 hours and 30 minutes and flights that are approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes or longer.

Signature made-to-order sundaes will also return as a dessert item on flights approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes or longer.

American made the below-mentioned modifications to their September 1 policy after most of the complaints received the month of September were related to first class meals. Or lack thereof.

American has also changed their signature warm cookies, which in my opinion, is a downgrade. Previously, the cookies were deliciously baked during the flight. However, the new cookies are just reheated aboard the flight and tastes very different. I was actually pretty disappointed when I tried one on my MIA-DCA flight last Sunday.

These changes officially take effect as of November 18, 2014. However, most of these changes were already  implemented by American in October.

We’re going for great by bringing you more of what you expect when you travel on American. Our most important customers, like you, have told us what you love most when you fly and we’re listening to make the travel experience even better.

Here are a few improvements we’re making to meals in First Class on American and US Airways flights within the United States, Mexico, Canada and the Caribbean starting November 18:

  • More meals on more flights: We’ll offer you a full meal with your choice of entrée on all flights approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes or longer.
  • Warm mixed nuts – an American favorite: We’ll reintroduce warm mixed nuts on all flights longer than approximately 2 hours
  • Upgraded Lite Bites basket: We’ll improve our Lite Bites basket on flights less than approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes to include a better selection of sandwiches, fresh fruit, breakfast breads, snacks and more
  • Signature made‑to‑order sundaes: We’ll bring back our made-to-order sundaes for dessert on flights approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes or longer

Beginning December 1, we’ll extend the time we serve breakfast from 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM, making sure you receive the most important meal of the day when you expect it.

We’re working harder than any other airline to become the greatest.

So nothing new, just an official announcement from American. Which took them long enough since most of us bloggers reported this back in early October.
