Citi AAdvantage Executive Cardholders Will Receive $225 Credit

In April, we wrote about whether there would be any refund for Citi AAdvantage Executive cardholders’ annual fees.  Well, good news!  A spokesperson from Citi just reached out to me with an update on the subject.  Cardholders will get a $225 credit.  And they are also extending companion certificates for Business Platinum members.

$225 Credit

Best of all, Citi will give all cardholders who had an open account as of March 31, 2020 a one-time credit of $225 upon card renewal.  Citi is giving the credit due to the fact Admirals Clubs have been closed for some time.  Of course, that took away a major benefit for the card.

Companion Certificate Extension

Existing AAdvantage Business Platinum cardholders who hold a companion certificate with an expiration date of December 31, 2020 will receive a 6-month extension, with the certificates expiring on June 30, 2021.

Flight Discount Certificate Extension

In addition, Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select cardholders will also get a 6-month extension on flight discount certificates.  Those who have a flight discount certificate with an expiration between March 31, 2020 and May 31, 2021 will be eligible for the 6-month extension.

Bottom Line

I’m actually pretty enthusiastic about this, and I think it’s very fair.  Honestly, I did think that it would only be right to provide some kind of credit or refund for the annual fee on the card.  Admirals Club is the prime benefit for that card, and it’s great to know there will be a 50% discount on the annual fee.  So I’m very excited and content about this to be completely honest.
