Delta vs Alaska: Reduction Of Reciprocal Elite Benefits
Starting on May 1, 2014, Delta Airlines Medallion members flying on Alaska Airlines will no longer receive baggage fee waivers or priority security line screening. Diamond, Platinum and Gold Medallion members will continue to receive other elite benefits such as complimentary upgrades, priority boarding, priority check-in and preferred seating. Delta is returning the favor by doing the same to Alaska MVP Gold and Gold 75K who fly on Delta Airlines.
These changes come as DL and AS continue to battle for control of Seattle’s airport which Delta is trying to turn into a new hub. Seattle is currently a hub to Alaska Airlines.

As a Medallion® member, we want you to be the first to know about important changes to the elite benefits offered when flying with our airline partners.
Starting May 1, 2014, baggage fee waivers and priority security are no longer included in the benefits extended to Medallion members when flying Alaska Airlines.*
However, Diamond, Platinum and Gold Medallion members will continue to enjoy the following benefits on Alaska Airlines flights:
- Complimentary Upgrades
- Priority Boarding
- Preferred Seats
- Priority Check-In
