EgyptAir hijacking-to-hostage situation, done in the name of love?
EgyptAir hijacking-to-hostage situation
Earlier this morning, an Egyptian plane was diverted to Cyprus due to a hijacking-to-hostage situation. Since then, the hijacker has been arrested by an on board security officer.
A man claimed to have an explosive vest and had been holding seven people hostage aboard an EgyptAir flight after forcing it to divert to the Mediterranean island of Cyprus during a domestic flight from Alexandria to Cairo.
According to the airline, flight number MS181, was carrying 56 passengers, including foreigners, and seven crew, and a security officer. Eight of the passengers were American.
Egyptian authorities do not believe the alleged hijacker had any ties to ISIS or any other sort of terrorist organization, but believe he was upset over personal relationship issues with his wife. The Egyptian foreign ministry said the hijacker “is not a terrorist, but an idiot”.
