Turtles causing delays at JFK

5turtlejfk0613aIf you thought birds were a pest when it came to flying, you haven’t seen it all. Apparently New York’s JFK airport has been affected with wondering turtles for quite some time. Something I would’ve never thought possible, except maybe in Saint Martin.

The Diamondback Terrapin turtles have a nearby natural habitat in Jamaica Bay, and the runways seem to be their favorite mating spot. Something about airplanes must turn them.

However, the Port Authority is rolling out a barrier that will, hopefully, keep them at bay and far away from the runways. The turtles have been known to cause delays and frustration among passengers at the already busy airport.
