WATCH: Shortest Commercial Flight in the World…It’s Less than Two Minutes Long
If you thought last week’s resumption of the world’s longest flight sounded terrible, you may want to try flying the shortest commercial flight in the world. The shortest regularly scheduled commercial flight in the world is a whopping 1.5 minutes, or 1.7 miles, of air time. The flight is so short, the six minute video below shows the taxi, takeoff, landing, and taxi of the flight.
The flight is by LoganAir, a Scottish regional airline. The flight operates between Westray and Papa Restray through the Orkney Interisland flight services. Other flights in the same island chain run a whopping 10 minutes. The islands are known for outdoor activities including bird watching, beautiful beaches, and lighthouses.
So how much will a flight like this cost you? Don’t worry, it doesn’t come anywhere close to what the longest flight in the world costs. The ticket prices start at around $22 for the flight.
I know some people get a little panicky about the prospect of a small plane, regardless of how short the flight is. For those who may be a little nervous about being on such a small plane, there is a car ferry option that takes 25 minutes.
Has anybody ever taken this flight?
