Lowest Fare Guarantee. It’s worth a try, trust me.
Have you ever tried an airlines “Low Price Guarantee?” I did on American Airlines yesterday for the very first time and the claim was resolved in my favor.
I bought a one-way MIA to DCA flight on AA.com for $132.60, but a few minutes later found that same flight on Kayak and Priceline for $121.10. So I remembered that often ignored low price guarantee policy that American has and decided to take AAdvantage of it.
American promises you that they offer the lowest airfares, guaranteed. If you do end up finding the exact same flight and itinerary for at least $5 less on another website on the same day you made your purchase and make your claim by midnight of the same calendar day, American will refund the difference in fare and give you a $50 promotion code for a future flight purchase.
I immediately filed a claim and within five minutes I had a response. AA.com web services asked for proof of the alleged lower price on Kayak or Priceline. So, I sent them a screenshot of the entire itinerary and within 30 minutes American once again responded saying that my claim was approved. They refunded me the difference in the fare (about $10) and gave me a $50 voucher to use on future travel.
Quick. Easy. Amazing. They try to resolve your claim within six hours, which is pretty darn quick.
However, keep in mind that the low price guarantee DOES NOT match other airlines. So if you find the same exact American flight for cheaper on US Airways, they will not match it. It must be a third-party U.S. point of sale travel website.
Other major airlines like Delta, United, and US Airways offer passengers similar guarantees. It’s worth trying it out if you find a lower fare elsewhere.
Have you ever tried to file a lowest price/fare guarantee? What was the outcome?
