American Airlines changes seat configurations on B737-800

It seems that the American Airlines and US Airways merger has started to have some effect on the seating maps of some American planes. Below you will see an example of two different seating maps for a DCA-MIA flight operated by a Boeing B737-800 aircraft.

Below you will see an old seat map of an AA Boeing 737-800 used between DCA and MIA. As you can tell, seats in the main cabin of AA’s 738 started with row 8. Additionally, there are 8 MCE rows available in the old configuration.

However, the new seat map (also below) shows the main cabin starting with row 7 and offers significantly less Main Cabin Extra seats than before. Previously there were 8 MCE rows and now there are only 5 MCE rows.

The old MCE seats have been renamed and “converted”, to “preferred seats” which still come at an extra cost but are cheaper than MCE seats.

Both configurations have the same amount of first class seats (16).

Have any of your flights had a change to their seat map? I’m sure we will see more of this in the days, weeks and months ahead. Now arriving US Airways under a new name.

*Not all 738’s have been reconfigured to the new layout.
