American Airlines Labor Leader Dies Suddenly

Forbes is reporting that Bill McGlashen, former American Airlines labor leader and labor spokesman, has passed away.

Bill McGlashen passed away in Dallas on August 5, 2014 following a two week bout of pneumonia.

The labor leader was born on December 7, 1958 in Lapeer, Michigan. After college he worked in public relations for a hospital and he worked on political campaigns. In 1989, he joined America West Airlines as a flight attendant, and quickly became active in labor organizing.

He was responsible for securing many labor contracts for America West Airlines and eventually for US Airways and American Airlines. McGlashen was a key partner in helping Doug Parker receive federal grants and secure loans in the aftermath of September 11, 2001.
