Hawaiian Airlines Flight Diverted Over Threat By Passenger Over $12 Blanket

Well, we’ve all seen our fair share of passengers getting angry on flights for number reason, including the time one passenger got so mad at the delay in deboarding she screamed at the plane.  Here’s another example of an unruly passenger leading to a diverted flight, after the man became outraged over the prospect of paying $12 for a blanket on a cold flight.

According to the Los Angeles Times:

The incident began after the plane took off from Las Vegas, and a 66-year-old passenger complained that he was cold, according to Officer Rob Pedregon, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Airport Police Department.

He asked for a blanket and was told it would cost $12, the officer said. The man became upset and said he shouldn’t have to pay because it was cold, he said.

So he asked to speak with the airline’s corporate office. During an in-flight call with company representatives, the man allegedly said, “I would like to take someone behind the woodshed for this.”

After the man’s comment, the flight was diverted to LAX due to “an unruly passenger,” and airport police were called, Pedregon said.

Police and federal authorities met with the flight crew and passenger when the plane landed at 10:20 a.m.

Unfortunately, we don’t have video to tell at least some of the story!  All we have is the video of the man being escorted off the plane.  It is a little crazy to pay $12 for the terrible blankets offered by airlines, but it usually isn’t very smart to threaten somebody at the airline when you aren’t getting what you want.  Perhaps that was a terrible choice (I’d say it was).
