Richard Branson has formed Virgin Cruises based in South Florida

Sir Richard Branson, the British business mogul, and the Virgin Group have announced the formation of Virgin Cruises, a new cruise line that Branson expects will shake up the cruise industry. The company will build two world class

ships to start its fleet with the backing of Bain Capital, a private equity firm.

Currently, Branson and his team own more than 4oo business worldwide, which means that this new business has great potential to succeed. Virgin Group has picked Tom McAlpin to head the management team at Virgin Cruises, Mr. McAlpin was a founding member and President of Disney Cruises and was also CEO of The World, Residence at Seat, a condo cruise ship.

However, the first sailing is not expected until after 2018 and no further details on the groups strategy was made available for competitive purposes. The Virgin Group did say that Virgin Cruises will be headquartered in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale, Florida area.
